Report on the Educational Tour to Kolkata

Like every year, this year too, the dept. of English organised a study Tour to Kolkata. The actual commencement of the tour began from 2^nd January 2013. The students and teachers who moved for study tour were 17 and 3 respectively. Thus, it was a total of 20 persons. The three teachers who accompanied us were: Sr. Shiny George, Miss Daihrii Matia and Miss K.Matia. We were given a residence to settle down in De Paul School which is located at Bansdroni, Kolkata. Fr.George, the principal of the school gave us a warm welcome and then led in to the room.

On 4^th Jan. we reached Kolkata, after a long journey. We reached there in the morning. We began our actual sightseeing from 8a.m to 6p.m every day. We began our sightseeing with Mother Teresa’s Home as the first spot. Next we proceeded to science city. It is a beautiful place with a wonderful compound set up. Some of the exhibition shows were Revolution world, 3D Show, Science gallery, fish aquarium, Cable Car, etc.

5^th Jan: We journeyed towards Nicco Park. The park is covered with numerous playful objects and exciting machine set up for both children and Adults. Some experiences that our group involved were Boating, Haunted House, Cyclone, River Cave, etc.

After a sumptuous meal, we visited City Centre, a big and luxurious shopping complex in the city. As to cover the time of the day, next we proceeded to the Botanical Garden crossing the Vidya Sagar Bridge.It was really astounding, the Great Banyan Tree in the garden, which is the biggest and oldest tree in the world. We also saw many other varieties of trees and vegetations growing there.

6^th Jan: The day was Sunday. We began the day with the Holy Mass presided by the newly ordained Bengali priest. The day was particularly kept for resting but we would not let the day go in vain. The half of the day passed by watching a newly released Hindi film in a cinema theatre. Metro train journey was a new experience. We appreciated the journey because it was rather cheap and convenient.

7^th Jan: the spots we visited on this day were Zoological Garden, St.Paul’s cathedral and Birla planetarium. The zoological garden is widely known in the country as well as in the world for its content of variety of species of birds and animals.

8^th Jan: The place we visited on this day were St.John’s church, Indian Museum, Victoria Memorial and shopping. As the last day of the tour, we enjoyed the above mentioned spots with all our hearts for the half of the day. The other half of the day was given for shopping in the new market.

Having spent 5 days at Kolkata, the tourists prepared for their hometown – enlightened, enriched, refreshed, full of zeal and widened in their vision – on 9^th January. We board the evening train and began the journey back to Dimapur and then finally to Maram. Thus, we were able to reach in the early morning of 11^th January.

DBCMaram Lauds the Ranks Holders of 2012

Maram 31 July 2012: Acknowledging the laurels brought home – that made Don Bosco College, Maram (DBCMaram) proud and outstanding through a galaxy of 48 Rank Holders, the College had a grant felicitation programme organized to which Shri Francis Ngajokp Honorable Minister, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Economics and Statistics, Govt. of Manipur was the Chief Guest. He was accorded a grant welcome by Rev. Fr.(Dr) KO Sebastian SDB, Rector; Rev. Benny James SDB the Principal; Management; staff and students of theCollege.
            The opening ceremony began with a special invocation to God by Fr. Roy George SDB, the Administrator. There were various colorful items to mark the magnificent occasion for the beauty of dream fulfilled.
            Rev. Fr.(Dr) K. O. Sebastian the Rector admired the Honorable Minister Shr. Francis Ngajokpa for being the guardian and patron of the college. He as well as exhorted the students to continue to keep up the good tradition and heritage of the college, and to achieve greater heights of success by treading the road to hard work like ‘bees’ who tirelessly toil for every drop of honey .
           Rev. Fr. Benny James, the principal, with profound gratitude congratulated all the rank holders, the management, staff and associates for making DBCMaram proud and a prestigious institution through the marvelous results through the years of its existence and particularly in 2011-12. In his speech Fr. Principal highlighted the achievements of various departments and teachers of different subjects. The college has bagged a total of 48 ranks since 2003 at Plus II level and 177 ranks since 2004 at Degree level. The Principal lauded the contribution of for the mammoth achievement of 225 ranks within a short span of 12 years.
          Honorable Minister Shri Francis Ngajopkpa gave away the awards to the meritorious students as well as to the teachers who excelled in their career. Honorable Minister paid a well fitting tribute to DBCMaram for its reputation, discipline, dedication, academic excellence and laurels brought in spite of lacking several amenities. He highlighted the need of possessing strong determination, dedication, hard work, never to postpone one’s future for tomorrow, to grab every opportunity, to aim higher and the need to be righteous to build a better society. He also grabbed the occasion to tell the audience about his own success story of single pair of pants to the present post as the minister of Rural Development and Pachayati Raj. Though provoking intrusion into various sectors of once life, the minister kept the audience spellbound till the end. Indeed his frank sharing captivated all the young minds as well as the teachers and all who had gathered.
          The programme came to a fruitful conclusion with profound gratitude and appreciation to every one for the grant success.

Don Bosco College Maram Takes Lion’s Share

Maram 3 July 2012: Once again the students of Don Bosco College, Maram(DBCMaram) proved their mettle in the recently declared Manipur University Under Graduate result 2012. A total of 42 ranks was captured by the students of Don Bosco College, Maram. Speaking on the occasion the Principal, Fr. Benny James SDB, credited the good result to the hard work of the students, assistant professors of the college, the support staff, the management and the various stake holders of the institution. He opined that, “the good result year after year of the undergraduate students, is sign of the qualitative educational involvement of the academicians of the college and the unfailing support she receives from every quarter.” Sr. Celine the previous provincial of Carmelite Sisters of Vedruna, Mumbai said, “Success has become trade mark here.”

The college offers various degree programmes like Arts, Science, Commerce, BCA and BSW. Of the results announced so far all the departments have shown their excellence by capturing important ranks in the University. DBCMaram has bagged three ranks in the Dept of Botany, five ranks in the Dept. Chemistry, two ranks in Commerce, twelve ranks in the Dept of English, eight ranks in the dept. of Political Science, four ranks in the dept of History and eight ranks in the dept. of Sociology. There are seven first ranks, four second ranks, four third ranks, two fourth ranks, seven fifth ranks, three sixth ranks, three seventh ranks, five eighth ranks, three ninth ranks, four tenth ranks. The college authorities expressed their congratulations to the toppers and successful candidates. According to the report released from the office of the principal stated that the felicitation programme will be organized for the degree and the Higher Secondary rank holders, namely three of them, end of July sometime.
